Early Texas Oil I have a painting numbered 351/1000 with the certificate called Early Texas Oil, by J. Boren. I am not wishing to sell, I just need to know what it is worth for insurance purposes. I am taking out a separate policy on my artwork and antiques and the insurance company requires a picture and estimated amount of worth. any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance...Tammy

James Boren In 1990 I lost one of the finest friends I was ever priviledged to have, and the world lost one of the finest artistic talents that the Lord ever put on earth. James Boren's paintings were alive with the excitement of life itself, and touched many hearts over the years. He was an inspiration, and offered encouragement to many young artists who he spent a tremendous amount of time with both in formal classes as well as in private conversations when he would ctitique their work. He also greatly influenced the creation of the Western Heritage Sale from 1976 thru 1985, and the Cowboy Artists of America Museum in Kerrville, Texas.

James Boren In the early to mid 1960's I had the privilege of knowing and working with Jim at the Martin Company in Denver. He had a studio in his home and several of us would meet there weekly for a sketch session with a live model. Later, I moved to Durango, CO. Jim would send me film and asked me to shoot the old barns, trains, rail cars, etc in the area. He would do quick watercolor sketches of these and send them back to me. I then sold them through a friend's small gallery in Durango. These were all 9 x 12 or smaller and sold for $18 or less. I still have one of these in my home. I remember Jim as a fine gentleman and wonderful artist.

James Boren My father, Bob Sites was best friends with James Boren while serving with the United States Marine Corps. They both served in Edson Raider's. My dad had flat feet and would have been rejected by the Raider's. Mr. Boren distracted the doctor that was supposed to check my dad. My father was able to move to the next station and pass the physical. They served together through many campaigns.
