ARTIST SUMMARIES
On the "Summary Page" for each of our artists, we summarize what’s available
about the artist: Dates, states, methods, biographies, subjects for which best
known; literature in which they are referenced, and the auction lots sold and
unsold of their works. You will also find their museum references, as well as
what might be available for sale from dealers or individuals, or who is looking
to purchase. And more!
In other words, unlike any other online resource, we give you an upfront
summary of our accumulated data.
We also welcome any information you can add.

BOOKS AND PERIODICALS
We have recorded over
25,000 books, exhibition
records and periodicals. We may have missed some meaningful references along
the way, such as limited editions, but anticipate and welcome your help in

We currently have thousands of biographies or inputs from multiple resources,
and give credits throughout our database to authors and their works for any
part that helped contribute to such information. |

DEALERS AND GALLERIES
 We
currently have approximately
4,000 dealers and galleries
listed which actively deal or specialize in our listed artists. They might be
identified when reviewing a specific artist, or by using our
Dealer Directory available from our Home page.

MUSEUMS
Our database has artist cross reference information to over
3,000 museums, as well as
links to the museums’ websites. This project of many years is a work in
progress, and all museums have been contacted for their comments. These museum
listings provide you with another source for researching the artists.

EXHIBITS
We are pleased to provide Museums and also our Premier Dealers the ability to
post public notice of their exhibitions, at no cost to them.

|
|
AUCTION HOUSES AND RECORDS
We present past Auction results for American artists from 1987, as well as
upcoming auction information for the Auction Houses we have identified as being
the best for American and International artists at auction. Our International
Auction records begin in 2007.
Prices generally include buyer's premiums, however there are many auction houses
that do not report prices to include the frequent 15-25% premiums. AskART
indicates with an ** these prices which include the mark-up.
Note: We limit our auction records to original works of art (not lithographs and
prints), and do not display artworks of ‘attributed to’ artists.

QUICK FACTS
Quick facts (keywords) give a great snapshot overview of the artist. Sources
include books, periodicals, auction records, family members, friends, and
professional researchers.

MAGAZINE ADS PRE-1998
Our 'Magazine Ads pre-1998' are a random display of artworks that were featured
in major fine art magazines before 1998. Some of these works were advertised
for sale, and others were taken from feature articles. In many cases they
represent some of the very best works by the artists, and may not be found via
traditional auction house records. Please note, the content for the Magazine Ads
pre-1998 was provided to AskART without complete references to the magazine or
advertiser sources, and therefore we are unable to provide those details.

IMAGE GALLERY
Our image gallery displays all the images we have available, and whether they
are from the auction records or magazine ads pre-1998, they visually represent
a wide range of the artist’s work.
Please remember that all artwork images are copyright of the artist or
assignee.

DISCUSSION BOARDS
We have created the Discussion board as a forum where viewers can discuss and
share information about the lives of the artists. Professional, as well as
anecdotal comments or notes from friends or relatives of the artist, can add
much to the knowledge about the artist. If our editors determine new
information is of particular value, then Alert emails are sent to others
interested in the particular artist.

AskART™ is committed to providing accurate, easy-to-access, comprehensive
information for the artists you are researching.
Again, we invite information on our artists from our viewers. Many of our
artists are only regionally recognized, and AskART is unique in providing a
means for bringing their work and life stories to a broader audience.
