Born in Poland, Adam Berg immigrated to the United States when he was 2
years old. Working in a Chicago Factory in his early teens, a spilled
bottle of acid blinded him. He prayed to God every day for a year to
return his sight and was prompted to become an artist when his sight was
miraculously restored and he received a vision from God telling him to
In the 40's, Berg moved to Wisconsin and worked odd jobs, grew
asparagus and opened a small museum to display his paintings in his
rural home. Religious subjects dominate his work. His technique was
highly unusual. By adding multiple layers of oil paint over a period of
years, he transformed his paintings into low reliefs.
