The following was submitted by Bernice and Joseph Fishstein of Brooklyn, New York. Their source is a letter, 2003, from Heather Haskell, Director of the Springfield, Art Museums (Massachusetts). Haskell wrote:
We have a bit of information about him [Graves] in an exhibition catalogue from the show "Town and River: Art of Springfield's First Golden Era" (1979-George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, Springfield, MA). The entry reads as follows:
"Albert Melville Graves (1862-1950), landscape and portrait painter, was born in Holyoke in November of 1862. His family soon moved to Chicopee where Graves was educated in local schools. He spent four years studying at Boston's Normal Art School and an additional year of study in various
