Biography Albert Lucas
Albert Pike Lucas was an American landscape, nude figure, and portrait painter and also a sculptor. He was especially noted for his atmospheric expressions of light and color in his paintings, and as a sculptor only four works have been located. One of them, a roughly chiseled marble female bust, Extase, which shows influence of Auguste Rodin, is in the collection of the Metropolitan Art Museum. The other sculptures are Sambo, a bronze bust; The Laughing Faun, a bronze garden fountain; and The American Girl, a marble head. He painted by preference nocturnes and twilight scenes, such as October Breezes (National Gallery, Washington), The Little Church on the Hill, and Walking Against the Wind.
