Biography Aleksei Vasilievich Von Hanzen
Aleksei Vasilievich Hanzen (1876-1937) first graduated in law in Odessa, before he moved to Munich in 1901, in order to study painting at the Academy. Further academic purposes led him to the art academies in Berlin and Dresden.
In 1906 Hanzen became a member of the Societé International des Aquarellistes and the Societé des Gravures en noir in Paris. He then moved to St Petersburg and became active as a marine painter of the Russian Navy Ministry, from 1908. In 1920 Hanzen emigrated via Odessa, Istanbul and Thessaloniki to Yugoslavia.
