Biography Alex Seotewa
Muralist Alex Seotewa was born in 1933 at the Zuni Pueblo. Seotewa attended St. Joseph's College in Albuquerque, New Mexico on an art scholarship. Seotewa next worked as a sign painter in the army during the Korean War.
Alex Seotewa's masterwork has been the murals of life-size Zuni kachinas he has been painting on the walls of the Zuni pueblo mission church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was originally constructed in 1629. Since 1970 Seotewa has been painting the murals in an effort to pass on ceremonial practices of the Zuni people to future generations.
In 1992 he was awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts in New Mexico. His worked has been featured in the New York Times and on Good Morning A
