Alice Leavitt Keep was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1861 and resided in the Milton and Boston areas for most of her life. She was married and widowed at a young age. Unfortunately, the son and daughter produced by the marriage also pre-deceased her in their early adulthood.
Little is known of her artistic training other than she studied in France as a young woman for a short period. She apparently was not represented by a gallery, not did she actively attempt to sell her works. It is thought that she produced hundreds of finished paintings in her life.
She was an active member of the Christian Science Church
