Biography Alice Edmiston
Alice Righter Edmiston ( b. 1874, Monroe, Wisconsin - d. 1964, Lincoln, Nebraska)
Alice's family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1878. She was a long-time resident of Lincoln where she was involved in many cultural and community organizations. She was a supporter of many modern art movements that developed in the early 20th century. Her advocacy for the arts led her to experiment with post-impressionism, cubism, and abstraction at a time when Nebraska art was primarily academic.
She studied at the University of Nebraska under Sarah Wool Moore in 1886. She and her contemporary, Clara Leland, were members of Dwight Kirsch's Saturday morning sketch club in the 1930s.
