Alonzo Davis (American, b. 1942)
Alonzo Davis was born in 1942 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Both of his parents worked for Tuskegee University - his father as a professor of psychology and his mother as a librarian. In 1955, the family moved to Los Angeles. Davis attended Pepperdine College and earned an MFA in printmaking and design at the Otis Art Institute under Charles White. Davis also served as an educator and minority arts advocate throughout his career.
In 1967, he co-founded the Brockman Gallery with his brother Dale Brockman Davis, where they promoted and featured the work of minority artists. They also founded the non-profit organization Brockman Productions for the support of African-American art and artists. &nbs
