Biography Alvin Beller
A pastelist and watercolorist, Alvin Jacob Beller is best remembered for his documentary films of early Carmel artists. He was born in Michigan and studied at the Detroit Commercial Art School, and the Art Students League in New York City. In the East, he studied with Charles Hawthorne, and Adam Breckenridge and in California with Dong Kingman and Arthur Beaumont.
In 1928, he moved to Carmel, California, and was active in the local art association, and in 1948, he and his wife moved to Downey, California. He also traveled to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico doing painting and photography.
