Amos W. Sangster (Canadian-American, 1833-1904), noted artist, painter, etcher, inventor, illustrator and respected art instructor primarily known for his etchings of the Niagara Falls region, and for his landscape and marine paintings in oil and watercolor. In the first half of the 1880's, Sangster began working on a series of original paintings and drawings for use in the later folio collection of etchings entitled Niagara River and Falls from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario (alternately titled Niagara River from Lake to Lake), an important and ambitious project that became his life's work, for which he is most well known today.
