Biography Andrew Fairbairn Affleck
Andrew Fairbairn Affleck [1869-1935]
He was a Scottish-born etcher and painter best known for his architectural plates of England, Holland, Italy, Belgium and America. Affleck settled in London but traveled extensively and lived in England, Belgium, Spain and finally in Etaples, France in 1910 where he remained until his death in 1935.
His etchings used a plate-toneto technique which leaves a thin film of ink on the plate before printing; creating tonal values of light and dark by clean wiping the areas he wished to be lighter, such as the columns.
Some of his known etchings include: The Meuse Cliffs (1916), France; Westminster Abbey, England; Windsor Castle, England, Old Cathedral of BaltimoreDisplaying 750 of 2797 characters.
