Biography Anton Hlavacek
Anton Hlavacek was born 1842 in Gaudenzdorf, today's Vienna. He began self-educated as a house painter and studied from 1859 to 1864 at the Vienna Academy under Franz Steinfeld and Albert Zimmermann, with whom he undertook study trips through the Austrian and Bavarian country, as well as later to the Rhine. One of his largest paintings, entitled 'Der Königsee' (The King 's Lake), was purchased by the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph in 1869. For the numerous works he produced in the decades that followed, Hlavacek chose by preference motifs from the environments of Vienna and the Austrian Alpine countries.
