Arthur Arderne was born 12th Feb 1882 at Grahamstown, South Africa, son of Arthur R Clarence and Floretta Clarence nee Rhodes. Following their marriage breakdown Floretta left South Africa for England, and in 1891 Floretta and her four children including Arthur were living at Castle Towers Wimbledon.
Arthur Arderne was educated at Rugby School 1896-1899 and then entered Exeter Collage Oxford and passed an honours degree in modern history in 1904, after which it seems he attended the London's South Kensington School of Art* run by Frank Brangwyn, J M Swan and C P Townsley. He may well have attended Frank Brangwyn's 1905 summer school in Belgium. (I’ve not found any records for the LSA)
