Biography Arthur Misaki
Arthur Misaki was born in Puyallup, Washington, on October 7, 1914 with the birth name of Asao Misaki. At the age of 5, his family moved to Japan. In his teens he returned to the United States living with a family in San Francisco working for room and board. During this time he changed his name to Arthur referring to King Arthur of England and his love of literature and art.
Upon graduation from Lowell High school in 1935, Arthur followed his dream of becoming an artist and attended San Francisco Art Institute. His art studies ended with the outbreak of World War II when he was sent to an internment camp at Tule Lake, California.
