Biography Felix Frederick De Crano
Felix Frederick de Crano was born March 27, 1839, in Menton, France. He studied mechanical drawing at Kings College in London and took further art instruction in London, Paris, and Rome. After immigrating to the United States, de Crano enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he was under the tutelage of Christian Schussele and Thomas Eakins.
De Crano became a prominent member of Philadelphia art world and an active art club member; for instance he was the treasurer of the Philadelphia Society of Artists. He exhibited extensively at the National Academy of Design, Cincinnati Industrial Expositions, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Art Club of Philadelphia, and several other important venues.
