Born in Chagrin Falls, OH on Dec. 29, 1849. During the 1880s Benjean was in Leadville, CO where she married photographer John E. Nast. The Nasts moved to Alameda, CA about 1889. After her husband established a photography studio there, she continued running the business while he studied medicine at UC. A self-taught artist, she painted still lifes, landscapes, and china. About 1902 the Nasts moved across the bay to San Francisco. Mrs. Nast died there on July 30, 1923.
