Biography   Bernhard Schultze


Bernard Schultze (1915-2005) studied at the Academy of Art Education in Berlin and at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf.  In 1952 he founded together with Karl Otto Götz, Otto Greis, and Heinz Kreutz the group of artists "Quadriga". 

He was a major representative of the German informal painting.  Strongly influenced by WOLS (Otto Wolfgang Schulze) and Tachism, Bernard Schultze developed a very unique style of gestural abstract painting, which is often referred to as lyrically abstract.
