Painter, illustrator, teacher, and writer, Blanche Grant was brought to the University of Nebraska School of Fine Arts in 1916 to become an Associate Professor in the Art Department, a position from which Sara Hayden had just resigned. For the last seventeen years, Sara had been a popular, widely respected teacher and artist, and reasons for her leaving seemed vague. However in an interview later with Clara Bucklin for her book Art and Artists in Nebraska, Sara said she had some problems with fees too high “for opportunities offered.”(Kennedy)
