Biography Carl Holsoe
Carl Vilhelm Holsoe ( 12 March 1863 in Aarhus - 7 November 1935 in Asserbo ) was a Danish painter, mostly of interiors. He was the son of architect NPC Holsoe and brother of painter Niels Holsoe.
Holsoe's interiors are painted with quick and virtuoso brushwork and sure sense of power. On his deathbed, he married a popular model he used in the high-ceilinged, stylish lounges he depicted. He lived for several years in Frederik's Hospital, which was later a decorative arts museum.
He was a friend of Vilhelm Hammershoi, and the term 'poor man Hammershoi' attached to his name before he had much market for his paintings.
Holsoe is buried at Vinderød Cemetery .
