Born on January 12, 1864 in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Gilbert became a painter, print maker and art educator. She studied with Arthur Dow and was a member of the Montparnasse Club. She lived in Minnesota and exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair, 1920 (2nd etching prize and 1st lithography prize) and 1935; Twin City Exhibiton, 1922 (2nd prize in painting).
She died in 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
