Photo-Realist watercolorist, printmaker Carolyn Brady was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1937. She died on May 5, 2005. Brady studied from 1955 to 1958 at Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City, receiving her B.F.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 1959, and her M.F.A. degree there in 1961.
She moved to New York City in 1961, where she met artists, including Photo-Realist painter Joseph Raffael, while working as a textile designer for Jack Prince. In 1963, she traveled in Europe. Brady moved to St. Louis in 1970, where she began her work with watercolor, using it in studies for the sewn pictures she exhibited there.
