CARRIE L. HILL

Alabama native Carrie L. Hill, active as a teacher in Birmingham through the 1930s, painted landscapes and flower pictures.  First she studied under Elliott Daingerfield, which would explain her progressive, impressionist technique. 

Hill won awards as follows: at the Mississippi Art Association (1925), at the Nashville Art Association a year later, and at the Southern States Art League in 1933.   In addition, she exhibited The Hillside at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1923.  Her exhibition record at the Southern States Art League is instructive.  In 1923, for example, she exhibited The Doorway, Cahors, France, which means she must have studied or traveled abroad in the ea   ...  Displaying 750 of 1100 characters.
