Biography Cecil Skotnes
Cecil Skotnes was one of South Africa’s most loved and respected artists. He was best known for his impressive carved and painted wood panels which have been increasing in value consistently over the years.
Cecil Skotnes was born in East London, studied drawing in Florence and attended what was the Wits Technical Art School in Johannesburg. He served in the South African forces in Italy and was much impressed by the work of Picasso and Henry Moore. On his return to South Africa he headed up the Polly Street Art Centre in Johannesburg thus embarking on a life-long career in the art world.
