Charles Augustus Federer (born: January 9, 1880, St. Louis Missouri-died: July 5, 1966, Danbury Connecticut)
He was the eldest child of Wilhelm Federer, and Agnes Fautz Federer. Wilhelm was born in Baden, Germany, and had come to the United States in 1868. He was a horse collar maker and a carriage trimmer. Agnes' parents also came from Germany, although she was born in Missouri.
Charles A. Federer was said by his son (also Charles) to have worked as a bell hop from the age of 12, and to have attended art classes at night. He is shown as a student at the St Louis School of Fine Arts from 1896-1898.
