Biography Charles Lacoste
Charles Lacoste was born in 1870, and was a self-taught artist. Charles Lacoste was a very young and knowledge collector of Gabriel Frizeau. He is also a patron of Bordeaux, and the poet Francis Jammes. Through the intermediary of the latter, he met André Gide, and the Rouart family. He remained close with them throughout his life.
He moved to Paris in 1899, and also made the acquaintance of Eugene Carriere, Maurice Denis, and Felix Vallotton. He was a mystic man with a very strong personality. He remains an un-classifiable artist, refusing any label.
His work is inspired by Japanese prints moving towards a simplification of form. His paintings often combine flat colors,
