From Philadelphia, Charles Santore is described as having "that ideal combination for an illustrator: a good solid base of the traditional fundamentals of picture making along with a very contemporary outlook. A good designer, his pictures are dramatic and arresting". (393)
Santore attended the Philadelphia College of Art where his teachers were Henry Pitz and Albert Gold, In 1958, he had his first assignment, which was for the Armstrong Cork Company.
