Born in 1964 in Torrance, California, Chris Jenkins' parents moved their young family in 1966 to the Hemet Valley, 100 miles east of Los Angeles beneath the heights of Mt. San Jacinto where he grew up with his five siblings. Roaming and hiking through the hills and washes of this inland valley, Chris quickly developed a fondness for the natural beauty of Southern California. Citrus groves, olive, pepper and eucalyptus trees, sandy washes and mountain views were the everyday surroundings for this young yet to be artist. When he began painting in oils in 1990 these landscape elements were the natural subject matter for his work, although he does an occasional still life now and then.
