Skov appears to have arrived in California in the early 1880s. He became a citizen of the U.S. in San Luis Obispo in 1883. Most of his years in California were spent in San Francisco where he worked as a mailman. A prolific painter, in his leisure he painted scenes of San Francisco, floral still lifes, and landscapes of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Russian River.
