Christine Ranes was born in Warsaw, Poland on May 10, 1929. Ranes grew up in Paris, France. Shortly after World War Two she immigrated to New York City where she studied at Pratt Institute and began her career as an abstract expressionist. After settling in Palo Alto, California in 1968, she earned her master of arts degree at Santa Clara University. She died in Palo Alto on October 1, 2002.
