Conceptual/minimalist sculptor Christopher Wilmarth, known for works made from plate glass and steel, was born in Sonoma, California, in 1943. He died by his own hand at the age of forty-four in Brooklyn, New York, in 1987. He had arrived in New York at age 17 and was enamored with the city's architecture. His ongoing inspiration and also frustration was trying to convey the sheer mass of the inner city and the movement of human beings through its labyrinthian streets.
The artist started using blown glass in the late 1970s. Wilmarth taught drawing and sculpture at Cooper Union, New York City, 1969-1980, where he had gained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1965. While at Cooper Union, he was a visiting artist at the University of
