Clarence Canning Allen

Clarence Canning Allen was active/lived in Oklahoma.  Clarence Allen is known for cartoonist, easel and mural painting, illustration.

Biography   Clarence Canning Allen


A newspaper cartoonist, illustrator, portrait painter and teacher, Clarence Canning Allen was born in Cleveland, Georgia, and spent much of his career in Oklahoma, although he traveled extensively.  He graduated from Southeastern State College, served in World War I, and then went to New York City where he attended the Art Students League, beginning 1919.  His League teachers were George Bridgman and Raymond Neilson, and he also studied with Dimitri Romanowsky and George Guion.

He illustrated a book on magic for the magician, Harry Houdini, served as an animator for the movie, Mutt and Jeff, worked on the staff as an artist for Iron Age Publishing, and for several film companies.
