Born in Michigan on Sept. 13,1884. Putnam was active in Los Angeles from 1913. He worked as a commercial artist, cartographer, and was an avid yachtsman. Putnam was the author-illustrator of several books including Log Book, Harbors & Islands, Califorrnia Coast. He often signed his paintings "PUT." He was senior staff commodore of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club at the time of his death in Newport Beach, CA on July 16, 1955. Member: Commercial Artists Ass'n of So. Calif.
