Born in the Santa Clara Valley on a farm near San Jose, CA on Feb. 20, 1897. Sweigert obtained a degree in agriculture from UC Berkeley in 1918 and served briefly in the Army in WWI. After a few years of farming, he worked in San Francisco for the News for seven years before becoming a socio-political cartoonist for the Chronicle in 1932, a position he held until retirement in 1955. Sweigert lived in Palo Alto at 1365 Forest Avenue from 1941 until his death on Feb. 20, 1973. Member: Palo Alto Art Club; Bohemian Club.
