Conrad Highwood (1824-1893)
A portrait and landscape painter, he was born Conrad Hochholzer in Bavaria, Germany in February of 1824 and was associated with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
He emigrated to America in c. 1848, settling in New York City. He toured the country in 1853 with a group of artists.
He married Laura Schober in Detroit, Michigan on January 26, 1856 and lived in Detroit from 1855-1963/64 (except for 1859, 1861, 1862/63). The family lived in Chicago, Illinois from 1864 until at least 1873.
He painted a half-length portrait of Henry Clay, which was sold in 1921 by the American Art Association.
