Born in Maryland, D, Paul Jones depicted Southwest Indian culture.
He studied art in Maryland, and then served in World War I. Returning to the United States, he went West and lived for several years among the Indians in New Mexico to learn their culture.
In 1921, he enrolled at the Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado Springs, but continued to return to the desert to paint. "An unidentified clipping at the Colorado springs Fine Arts Center mentions that he had 'a flair for the hazes and distances and subtle color qualities of the vast reaches of our deserts. . . ."(235). Painter Alfred Morang referred to Jones as "a painter of significant externals."
