Biography David Richards
A painter and sculptor, David Richards was born in Wales and came to the United States in the late 1840s. He was especially noted for his portrait busts and medallions of political figures including clergymen, President Grant, Horatio Seymour (Utica political leader), "Confederate Soldier", and General Harding.
He also created small portrait busts of well-known persons, and these were mass produced in plaster and sold widely.
Richards exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York, and he studied art in that city for seven years after his arrival there in 1850.
His records and work is in the New York Public Library.
