Born in Sweden on April 9, 1898. Swanson came to the United States in 1920. By 1930 he was a resident of Santa Barbara. During the Depression he was an employee of the Federal Art Project. By 1941 he was living in Pasadena where he remained until his demise on November 21, 1994. Exhibited: Palos Verdes Library, 1935, 1941; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939; Santa Barbara Art League, 1939; Library of Congress, 1946; Pasadena Art Institute, 1950; Pasadena Society of Artists, 1954-55. Works held: Santa Ynez Valley (CA) High School (walnut panel); Santa Barbara High School.
