According to Who's Who in American Art: Dean Purdy Close, was born in 1905 in Columbus, Ohio. He studied with C.M. Duvall; Ohio State University.
He was a member of the Columbus Artist League and Pen and Pencil Club.
Exhibitions were at the Columbus Gallery of Fine Art 1937-38, 1940 (prize), 1941-46, and Butler Art Institute.
Dean Close painted America with particular emphasis on the hill country of his native Ohio. His numerous trips to the West Coast and lengthy stays in the western mountain and desert areas added significantly to his realm of subject matter.
