Biography Della Vik
Della (Delia) Vik was born October 9, 1889, in River Sioux, Iowa, growing up in southwestern Iowa. She worked as a photographer, helping her husband, Ole Anders Vik, whom she married in 1909, run his portrait and landscape photography business in Sturgis, South Dakota. They later moved to Rapid City, in 1924, until they retired in 1945. During that time she painted oils, making pastel and pen and ink drawings of landscapes, buildings, and other Black Hills subjects. Vik was basically self-taught, though she briefly studied in 1938, when she was nearly fifty years old, at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center with Henry Varnum Poor and Boardman Robinson.
