An artist and art teacher for sixty years, Della Bushnell's painting specialty was portraits, but she also did still life,
figure, marine, and landscapes in oil and watercolor. Her style was realism, and wrestling with
techniques of detailing, she said: “Anyone can paint a pussy willow, but
to put fur on it is a different thing.” (Dawdy 65)
