Didier Amevi Ahadsi is one of Togo's best known sculptors.
A self-taught artist, Ahadsi produced toys from old tin cans as a child and then later used his skills as a professional panel beater and welder to create an extensive body of satirical work creating an ongoing journal of the vanities of daily life in Lome´ where he lives and works. In this he is part of a tradition of artists, from Tanzania's George Lilanga to Zimbabwe's Lovemore Kambudzi, to provide a wry running commentary on contemporary African life.
Ahadsi's works can be erotic, provocative and even macabre. His inspiration ranges from Voodoo religious practices to a series of glimpses of personal narratives and personalities from the piano play
