Dona Nelson

Dona Nelson is active/lives in New York.  Dona Nelson is known for mod figurative imagery, abstraction.

Biography   Dona Nelson

A student of Malcolm Morely at Ohio State University, Dona Nelson became a painter of abstractions. She received her MFA in 1968 and moved to New York where she entered the Whitney Independent Study Program, and during the 1970s pursued Abstract Expressionism. In the early 80s, she turned to large-scale figurative work. In 1996, she had a solo exhibition at the Michael Klein Gallery in SoHo, New York City.

More recently she has done a series titled "12 Stations of the Subway" that parodies Barnett Newman's "Stations of the Cross." One painting in the series called "The Deep," is after a famous Pollock. In this work, the Abstract
Expressionists and the city where they worked are clearly on Nelson's mind.
