Biography   Donald Paul Humphrey

Donald Paul Humphrey was born February 18, 1912 and died August 26, 1958 at the age of 46. He died young from a rare disease called Periarteritis Nodosa - a disease that causes swelling in the arteries and blood vessels due to an immune system malfunction. At the time of his death, he left behind a widow and eight children.

Don grew up in Milwaukee and attended the Layton School of Art* under the tutelage of Charlotte Partridge, Layton director. At the time that Don attended Layton, Charlotte Partridge was also the Wisconsin Director of the WPA* Public Works of Art Project during its short six-month life between 1933 and1934. She was also the Wisconsin Federal Arts Project* director (WPA) from 1935-1939.
