Douglas Granvil Chandor is noted for his skill as an accomplished portrait painter. During his career he painted many notable figures including President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Sir Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II.
Chandor was born in Warlingham, England in 1897, and raised in County Surrey. He attended Radley College, Berkshire form 1910-1914. Following service in the military, Chandor enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts, Bloomsbury, England, and then attended the Slade School of Art with study under Henry Tonks. Then Chandor began accepting portrait commissions and establishing his portrait painting career.
