Pennsylvania artist E.H. Allerton was born in the late 19th century and began his interest in painting at an early age. After he graduated high school he studied at the The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts* in Philadelphia. He was awarded the Joseph E. Temple Fund Gold Medal for the best oil painting by an American artist exhibited at PAFA's annual exhibition.

Later Allerton was awarded the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Traveling Scholarship* in 1903, 1904. He was very influenced by the New Hope School* of painting. His impressionistic landscapes are full of color, warmth, and expression.
