Biography   Edith Douglas King

Born in Oakland, CA on June 21, 1869.  King was active in the San Francisco art scene during the 1890s.  She had a home in Berkeley until 1902 and then settled across the bay in San Francisco.  Many of her works were lost in the earthquake and fire of 1906.  She shared a studio with her sister Nettie until the latter's marriage in 1910.  She then worked as a milliner for many years.  A spinster, she lived at 54 Lower Terrace until her demise on June 29, 1955.  The subjects of her oils and watercolors include landscapes, coastals, and local scenic spots.
