Biography Edward Mascraft
Edward G Mascraft was born in Esperance, New York in Schoharie County on October 10, 1840 and at age 10 moved to New York City for five years, and then moved in 1855 to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
He enlisted to fight in the Civil War as a private in the spring of 1862 in Company A of the 14th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in the regiment of Colonel David E. Wood. He he fought in Vicksburg, Nashville, Mobile and Shiloh and was wounded by a shell at Shiloh. Disabled for about a month, he then became Chief Bugler in the brigade of General Ransom. He participated in nearly all the battles of his regiment and then mustered out at Mobile, Alabama in the fall of 1865.
