Edward Karniej (1890 - 1942)
Edward Karniej was a painter, art director, and a designer affiliated with Vilnius. In his youth he worked as carpenter. During World War I, he transferred to Germany where he worked as miner. In 1918, he returned to Vilnius, where he became a stage designer assistant in a local theater.
Encouraged by stage designer Jozef Czechowicz, Edward Karniej joined the Drawing School of Vilnius, directed by Vilnius Art Society. In 1921, he became a member of the Vilnius Art Society. He exhibited at society's exhibitions from 1922 until 1934.
In 1931, Edward Karniej exhibited at Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From 1932, he lived in Torun where worked as stage designer at a localAgra Art S.A.
